Online study is proving to be popular with older students at Dekin University because this allows them to balance work and/or family commitments, the use of various off-campus learning formats as been identified as being advantageous in the student’s learning. In addition to off campus learning the students still have additional learning support with the first being online conferencing. With the staff and students being virtually in the same place and contributing and seeking help, telephone conferences are still offered and the last and most beneficial in my opinion is weekend schools for face to face tutorials.
This online program is not just available to Australian students but is also offered internationally, this is beneficial for those living in area where there aren’t any universities such as the islands surrounding Australia. This can be seen as advantageous to some but it can prove to be costly in other areas since internet is not readily available in all societies. Telephone learning can also prove to be quite difficult to obtain. So is this only benefiting those with advanced forms of technology?
Like the Dahat International School all the units taught at the university have at least one online component, which enables all the students to develop their online skills.

Do you feel that virtual learning used by the likes of Deakin University is value for money i had a look at what they were charging and it was from $5000 -$9000. Does virtual education need to be so expensive if your not using as much of the lecturers time that may be needed in face to face interactions.

ReplyDeleteone point that has to be considered is that unlike in England most in the world schools charge tution fees so for the locals this is a reduced rate in the fees however like Dani saidone point that has to be considered is that unlike in England most in the world schools charge tution fees so for the locals this is a reduced rate in the fees however like Dani said can it be as good as a degree? well i cant not give you a definate answer i am a beliver of f2f communication and i learn better using this method but fior people with no other option i guess this would be seen as a good way of education as opposed to mail correspondence because getting feedback will be quicker and online forums can be hosted online whereas getting people to communicate through post is time consuming, unlikely to fully take of and highly expensive :)
