Lister:New Media and New Technologies Pg 2

The upgrade culture can be considered by some as a way technology is developing in society and how ne facilities are constantly being incorporated into our everyday life. One can see that form the technology offered on programs such as windows 95 and compared to windows vista there has been some considerable change regarding what the packages offered the user. However if one takes a second look its if not really new media that has replaced the previous one instead it is more a development on the existing package, by tweaking and adjusting a few aspects of the program it can be repackaged and sold to consumers as a new product, which is generally regarded as consumerism, to the profit of big businesses.

  1. this is true. people often dont even tend to look at what extra benefits the 'upgrade' has- they just assume that they are getting a better deal! most of the time theyre always the same xx

  2. Hi Rue,
I think you can now see what I meant in the first workshop when I talked about the problem of reverse ordering posts? (You might consider what this tells us about technology and communication in relation to technodeterminism vs. sociodeterminism?)

As I said, it's a good idea to write to a word-processor, then cut & paste into the blog so that the reading order can be correct. It only adds a few minutes to the job and it pays dividends in terms of clarity and thoughtfulness.
