Week 5 Meikle part F

I think that the net can form a new media institution because it is a place where everybody is equal, one is not limited by the contacts he/she has or qualifications it is an open space ready to be filled with opinions.

  1. Are we all equal?
Is the forum-posting Big Brother fan equal to the Endemol executive who can pay for the forum to exist? Can pay for it to be contextualised in whatever way suits the company? And can pay people to 'ghost' as the voice of the presenter online -initiating threads and dropping in 'insider gossip'.

Then all the produser content and the user marketing info can be used to produce new ideas for future material on the show (and other shows) and can be sold on to other marketers trying to sell to the same demographic?

Perhaps like the 'new' in 'new media', the notion of online equality doesn't stand up to close scrutiny? What might be true is that 'breaking in and or through' to 'visibility' online is more open than previous media -and perhaps maintaining pre-eminence is harder?
